Mikihisa Kiridashi

The company is based in Miki City, Hyogo Prefecture. Known as the "Sheffield of Japan," Miki is the oldest blacksmithing town in the country, with a history of ironworking dating back over 1,500 years.

In essence, a Mikihisa kiridashi is to Japanese woodworking what a Sheffield-made marking knife is to Western craft: a simple, highly refined tool shaped by centuries of steelworking tradition.
