  • 210 x 50 x 15mm
  • S55c Carbon Steel with Black Coating
  • Blade length 14mm
  • Designed specifically for safe, precise bonsai trunk and branch splitting

A handcrafted Japanese bonsai tool designed for essential maintenance tasks such as root pruning and repotting. The strong, durable blades make clean, precise cuts through dense roots and small branches, while the extended handles provide added leverage and greater control during use.

Suitable for cutting live roots and branches up to approximately 5mm thick (around one-third to one-half of the blade length). Not recommended for cutting deadwood, and should never be used on wire to avoid damaging the blades.

Root pruning is an essential part of maintaining a healthy bonsai, particularly during repotting. Before pruning, use a bonsai root hook to carefully loosen and comb through the roots, removing any tangles or crossed growth. The amount of root pruning required will vary depending on the tree species, pot size, and overall health of the bonsai, so it’s important to research the specific needs of your tree beforehand.

Once pruning is complete, position the root ball on a fresh, shallow layer of bonsai soil and fill in any remaining gaps. Gently firm the soil around the roots and water thoroughly to help settle the soil and support healthy recovery.
